When I go running my music playlist is everything. Without it, I would not be able to run more than a couple blocks! I am a big fan of listening to personal development books like Think And Grow Rich and The Slight Edge. And I have TRIED to listen to audiobooks while I’m running – but my performance suffers! I need MUSIC. Music has the power to take me from out of breath and miserable, to having that INTENSE FOCUS necessarily to to run for hours on end.
I have also used a NEW playlist for each half marathon I have ran so far. When I first sign up for a race I scan iTunes and pick out the perfect tunes that I know will pump me up. I create a play list and that’s what I train with, and that’s what I listen to on race day. So now, everytime I hear Leona Lewis’s Bleeding Love, I think running in the Idaho winters as I trained for my very first race. I think of the route I used most often during my training runs. Running is therapy for me, and oddly enough I have had some deep moments of clarity while listening to Lady GaGa. ;)
That’s right – Lady GaGa. The thing is – the music I listen to while running is NOT the music I typically listen to! I’m from Idaho and I’m a big fan of country music, and easy going RELAXING tunes to ease my mind. But when I run I need a little less Rascal Flatts and Paramore, and a lot more Rihanna, Enimen, and Nicki Minaj. ;)
So with that said- I present to you my running playlists for the first two half marathons I have done. Stay tuned for playlist number 3 – the Pocatello Just Cuz playing list. :)
