BE KIND

I remember one year when I spent Thanksgiving completely alone.

I was about 20 years old, trying to be a real estate agent by day, working graveyard shifts at Denny’s restaurant by night. I was living in Utah and my family was all in Idaho.

Anyone who has ever worked in the food industry knows Thanksgiving is a busy time and they need as many people as possible to work! Getting someone to cover your shift is highly unlikely. So I worked.

I remember going back to my apartment after my graveyard shift and feeling IMMENSE loneliness. All my roommates had left to see their families. There was no fancy dinner for Thanksgiving. No turkey. Nothing special about that day. That year I didn’t go home for Christmas either.

It’s memories like that that make me SO FULL of gratitude to be with family right now, and have that freedom to take off work.

My heart goes out to everyone who is working today. Retail, food industry, whatever it may be.

If you’re out and about today BE KIND to the people you see working!
