I just LOVE transformation stories.  Maygen lost 65 pounds in a Beachbody challenge group and I wanted to share her story with you all.  This is what she had to say.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? 
Before I started to exercise, I was driving an 2 hours everyday to take college classes. I started to notice I was gaining weight but ignored it. Then all I would wore were sweatpants and big tee shirts. I noticed I no longer allowed anyone to photograph me. I began to get depressed. I was going to college to become a nurse. My now husband and I were in a serious relationship, but I found myself getting jealous when a thin, good looking girl would talk to him. It seemed to hit me all at once. I was no longer that skinny, good looking girl I used to be when we started dating. I hated what I had become. An overweight, sedentary person who focused all my time and energy into my studies. As a nursing student, I was learning what being overweight does to people, yet I was overweight. It was time for a change.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? 
Before I began my weight loss journey, I would complain openly about how fat I’d become. One day my best friends mother, a yoga and zumba instructor, informed me that no one could change my body but me. I thought long and hard about those words. I also began to think about my career choice. I knew I’d eventually have to give someone the dreaded news of their need to lose weight to be healthy. How hypocritical for an overweight nurse to tell another overweight person to lose weight! I also knew my husband and I would be married soon, so I wanted to look my best for our wedding. I wasn’t sure if I would be successful or not, but it was worth a try.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge? 
My greatest challenge was lack of motivation! I wanted to lose the weight, but I wanted to do it the easy way. I used diet pills without exercise. I wasn’t willing to change my habits. Beachbody gave me programs I ENJOYED doing. I didn’t need motivation for something I loved to do everyday. It made it easier to push play by providing program I actually enjoyed doing.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of? 
I’ve lost a total of 65 lbs and 6 pant sizes with Beachbody Programs. I look better than I did in high school and I feel absolutely AMAZING! My confidence is through the roof and I feel as if anything is possible! I’ve become a beachbody coach to help others achieve their fitness goals and find their confidence as well.
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program? 
I have so much more energy. I’m active everyday. I’ve been able to help others begin to head after their goals by becoming a coach! I’ve felt AMAZING since I’ve lost all that weight! My family and friends can see my confidence and happiness! I am a Beachbody coach now, aiming to help others. People ask me all the time how I’ve lost my weight and how I’ve maintained my weight loss. I enjoy telling others about my weight loss. I am a nurse and I work 12 hour shifts, I can sprint up and down the halls in emergency situations without a problem and I can get my job done with ease. I can keep up with the physical demands with ease!
What tips or tools did you find most useful? What made them so instrumental?
I found other’s success stories to be the biggest influence on my motivation. Seeing how others have changed their lives by challenging their bodies was great motivation for me to make the changes necessary to reach my goals.

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? 

FELT EXHAUSTED, LAZY, WITHDRAWN .... No Enery or desire to do anything !!! Embarassed about my body, felt very heavy … SIZE X-LRG Size Clothing was no longer large enough – very depressing.

 

 

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? 

MY TRIPLETS ... They are 10 yrs. and LOVE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. They enjoy Bike Riding, Scooters, Playing Baseball , Walking the Dog in The Park, Gymnastics, etc. I HAD NO ENERGY to want to do any outdoor acftivities with the Children. I was TOO EMBARASSED to be at The Park with the Children because there were – too many Families & Children everywhere – physically fit & active.

 

 

What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge? EATING CLEAN .... NEEDED TO ELIMINATE JUNK FOODS !!! My Coach inspired me to Eat Clean, Drink Shakeology, Inspired me on to Keep Going and NOT GIVE UP . Challenge #1 SLIM in 6 was a Success & Challenge # 2 really was FUN !!! Now I’m ready to Move on to Challenge # 3 – ChaLean 90 Days to Firm-up, Tone-up …. Strength.

How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program? 

I’m SO HAPPY now …. I want to go outside and be around people in the Park, at the Stores. Don’t feel so embarassed. I feel Energized, light, my self esteem is HIGH. I have a much better outlook – POSITIVE.

P90X & Shakeology transformation - Lisa J

I don’t think I’ve ever get sick of transformation stories.  This is Lisa J and here is her story.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I have always been athletic and involved in sports my whole life. I never felt as though I was ever the most “in shape” person on my teams but I worked hard. For the most part, I felt like I think most girls do growing up, confident in myself but not necessarily in my body. This got much worse when, after college, I stopped playing soccer. I continued to eat as though I had two practices a day to fuel up for but didn’t actively exercise. My attitude towards food was incredibly unhealthy and had always been reinforced to me as “comfort”. ‘Had a bad day? Let’s get some ice cream, you’ll feel better. Still upset about that argument we had? Let’s order chinese food, then we’ll feel better.’ Food was my source of escape from a life I had come to recognize as not my own. I would consume several thousand calories a day to maintain my escape from reality and ate my way up to around 200 lbs. I was incredibly depressed, lost, unhappy, and flat out sick and I didn’t even know it.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
My father was suddenly diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer and shortly thereafter passed away. I felt as though I needed to be “the rock” for my family and pushed my own grief, confusion, and unhappiness aside and kept it tightly bottled up with food. I ate and ate and ate until I quite literally could not eat any more. I woke up one morning in January of this year with an extreme pain in my jaw and found that I had a giant, softball size lump swelling on my jaw and neck. I immediately went to the ER and was told that due to type of severe pain I was experiencing, that I was a female, and “was in the type of physical shape” I was in, their first fear and assumption was that I had had a heart attack. I thought, “who are you talking to? Couldn’t be me. I’m 22 years old! I didn’t have a heart attack!” This terrified me to the bone. After finally diagnosing me with a very severe infection and scheduling me to be hospitalized for several surgeries, I knew things had to change.
Why did you choose the particular program?
I had ordered P90X earlier and used it briefly to help me stay in off-season shape for my college soccer team but never completed the full 90 day rotation. I was familiar with the Beachbody community and knew that if I wanted to get out of the terrible place I was in, I needed something that was real and that worked. I knew that Beachbody had the tools for a real answer and wasn’t just a gimmick. I knew P90X worked so I got it back out once I was released from the hospital and got to work. After completing all 90 days, losing 52 lbs and 28% body fat, I wanted more! I was hooked on the functional, sports specific idea behind Asylum and ordered it right away. Completed 30 days, lost 9 lbs and 4% body fat, and increased my speed and strength in all areas!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I liked how easily modifiable P90X was to my needs. All the way from starting out not being able to do very much and just trying to complete the simple movements in each workout to trying to out jump the cast in Plyometrics by the end! P90X became my replacement for comfort food. ‘Having a bad day? Go do your X workout, you’ll feel better.’ It didn’t matter if you were feeling great or horrible, if you just showed up, pushed play, and gave it your best that day, that was enough. In Asylum, I loved how much it felt like training to play soccer again! It felt great to challenge my body in that way and I loved all of the tips and motivation Shaun T provided in every workout. I feel like along with my body learning and adapting and becoming stronger, Shaun T was also challenging my mind to grow and do the same. Loved it!
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge I faced was having to undergo 3 further surgeries after beginning P90X. Trying to balance proper healing and recovery time to best take care of myself but also staying committed to my goal of following through and changing my life with P90X. It was very difficult. The only way I can say I overcame this, was by using Shakeology and sleeping as much as I possibly could! I wasn’t allowed solid food so instead of jello and mashed potatoes, I ate Shakeology. I honestly feel as though it snapped my recovery time down to almost nothing and had me back to my normal routine in no time. If I wasn’t sleeping, I was doing my workout for the day at whatever pace I could manage or sipping on Shakeology. That was it!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?
Using Shakeology and walking everyday after I was released from the hospital, I lost about 20 lbs. Once I was medically cleared to exercise, continuing to use Shakeology and completing the full P90X program, I lost a further 52 lbs, countless inches and 28% body fat. I went from larger than a size 16 to a size 4. Then after completing 30 days of Asylum, I lost 9 more lbs, 4% body fat, and now hover somewhere between a size 2 and a size 4. I am truly most proud of the fact that I feel as though I have reclaimed myself and my life. I am fulling living now and no longer feel like I need to “hide” or “escape” from my own life. I am happy, confident, and excited for each and every day. I fought to get my true self back and I won.

Cecil P P90X & Insanity Transformation

 Isn’t this amazing?!  I think this is one of my FAVORITE BeachBody transformations.  Cecil lost 117 lbs with P90X and Insanity and I just HAD to do a little spotlight on her.

(Cecil is from Puerto Rico and I did my best to translate her responses to the questions.  But if the grammar is a little off just know that’s the reason why.  haha)  

 

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
All my life was plump, but a season of my life for personal reasons and was experiencing emotional situations that I lost control of my life, suffering severe depression that led me to overweight that I escape from my hands … I was ashamed of having to share with family and friends were either in a restaurant, a cinema, a shopping center, for all the people around me were in comparatively normal weight to overweight large me.  I wore clothes in dark colors like black and gray to try to fool myself in the mirror and not feel uncomfortable by my silent depression.  Why I could not take control over me? I felt insecure and I locked myself away from activities like going to the beach, or any type of physical activity.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
God made me rescue my life and gave me the strength to get up and do something for my self.   To hit bottom and fall into a hospital helped me to see that if did not do something about my health, my weight would drag me to death . Sometimes we have to go through situations and experiences that shake your life and learn to appreciate what really is incalculabe … your health!
Why did you choose the program special?
I chose P90X because I identified with a history of people like me who were suffering from depression. The many videos and testimonies and transformations achieved grab my attention and I get the message clear … I did not think twice and ordered my program and I prayed to God and I said to myself, if you don’t try, you’ll never know what you’re capable of!  It was the best decision I ever made in my life. I recovered my health and not just that, I sculpted, toned and molded my body in a way I never thought possible. Beachbody change my body, my health and my life.
What did you like in particular, about the program you chose?
I like how enthusiastic and energetic P90x is Tony Horton, every workout was a big challenge for me every time I turned on my TV, but once the workout was done it was a great achievement and every day brought me closer to the woman I wanted to be. I liked that all exercises were modified versions for people like me, a person who knew nothing of weights or exercises.  I learned a lot every day.
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?
I had to face myself.  I would get frustrated that the number on the scale did not move faster.  And sometimes it frustrated me to see that I did not lose weight, but yet in inches and clothing sizes.  I was surprised that there were loose pants and shirts.
Describe the results you Achieved with your Beachbody ® program. What achievements are you proud of?
What gives me pride and satisfaction of completing my programs that I specifically did P90X & INSANITY, I am proud to have done things I never thought I would do, I never imagined I could do pushups and I did, I never thought to do yoga and I was surprised myself for the flexibility that developed.   All my life I hated sweating and I was sweating a lot in both programs but I felt so happy … to see that day after day I was losing my fears and insecurities … I made it through each and every one of the DVD ‘S of each program … I am proud to know that there is nothing IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO ACHIEVE BY MYSELF :)

Check out this AMAZING transformation from Roni K!  I have people who think losing weight is only for those in the 20s and 30s.  That it’s too late for them.  But it isn’t true!  You CAN change your health and fitness at ANY age.  :)  Here’s Roni’s story.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I am 53, and food and weight issues have been a curse my entire life. When I was about 11 or 12 years old, a dinner guest in our home said to my parents, “She certainly is well-fed!” My mom said, “Yes, we should probably put her on a diet. It’s now about 40 years later, and I have probably tried everything. I played all the girls’ sports in high school and stayed fairly active thereafter. I’ve been a regular at the gym for the last 20 years or so, but have really wasted many hours doing cardio machines that my body had acclimated to. In Nov 2010, I found myself at the peak of my yo-yo cycle at 187 pounds. I was miserable. I avoided doing anything fun for fear of having to wear shorts, a bathing suit, a dress, or anything other than that one pair of ugly stretch pants and sweatshirt. But it was so hard to just get started. I’d wake up in the morning with good intentions, and by mid afternoon it was all over. I would vow to “start tomorrow!” That happened many times.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I finally got so disgusted that I got consistent. I started eating right. I lost some weight, but I was so worried that the cycle would repeat itself and I would gain it back. I did NOT want that to happen, so after some investigation, I decided it was time to BRING IT! No more of this wimpy stuff at the gym. It was time to get in the best shape of my life, and that meant P90X! My husband has always been into fitness, and as we got older, he was looking great while I looked older and older. He wanted to be active and do fun outdoor activities, but I was embarrassed and uncomfortable with my weight, so I would avoid doing anything that required shorts or a bathing suit. My marriage was suffering. Also, I knew that menopause was approaching, and I was afraid of what that would do to my body, which was already looking old, saggy and wrinkled. I was so tired of feeling matronly and sluggish, and I worried that it would only get worse the older I got.
Why did you choose the particular program?
I had seen infomercials for P90X, and just had a feeling that this was the answer. I saw that the results were real, the people were real, and the workouts looked challenging. I really liked that it was scheduled out for me, because I work well by the calendar. There was no guesswork about what I needed to do each day. I also liked the fact that there was a website with message boards where I could plug in to stay accountable.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I liked that it was a good combination of weight training and cardio. I liked that the moves did not involve fancy choreography that I needed to be super coordinated to be able to do. I liked the trainer on the DVDs (Tony) because he was motivating and not annoying like some others. And I liked that the workouts were all scheduled out for me.
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?
My greatest challenge was feeling frustrated at being unable to do some of the exercises in the beginning (and even still). I overcame that challenge by continually reminding myself that it would get easier if only I continued to try. I did continue to do my best in every workout, and indeed it DID get easier, and I was able to do a lot more at the end than I was able to do at the beginning.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?
I lost 40 pounds overall, although I lost some of the weight before starting P90X. But with P90X, I went from 34% body fat to 19%, and that is what I am most proud of. I went from a size 12 to a size 4, which was SO much fun! I went from having no muscle definition to having strong, toned arms, legs and abs.

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?My life before was unhealthy; I was smoking, drinking on the weekends, not exercising, eating fast food constantly, not sleeping, stress levels were always high and my performance at work was slipping. I also suffer from Panic & Anxiety disorder so the lifestyle I was living was basically to evade the feelings I was having. My body was at it’s fattest and unhealthiest. I was on medications for pain, sleep, anxiety & depression. My self image was at an all time low, I didn’t even recognize the person in the mirror anymore; from a physical and mental standpoint.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?P90X actually. I was up late one night and the infomercial came on, and I REALLY wanted to buy that program, but I knew I was not physically capable of doing it. So I went to the Beachbody website and looked that all of the programs and decided on 10 Minute Trainer. Besides the fact that I was extremely depressed about my physical health and outwardly appearance.
Why did you choose the particular program?In the physical and mental condition I was in I wanted something that wasn’t too easy, but that I could also utilize to graduate up to Power90 then to P90X. After a rear-end car accident, of which I was the recipient, I needed a program that wasn’t going to put my body under too much physical stress. I was just ending 6 months of 3 day a week physical training rehab for my neck and back, so I didn’t want anything to advanced.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?I liked that the program allowed me to workout in 10 minute increments which was perfect for the anxiety in me – knowing I wasn’t committed to something an hour long. I never needed to use JUST the 10 minutes; I always did a 30 minute workout. The workouts were fun, quick, and produced results which amazed me because I didn’t think working out and having fun doing it for 30 minutes a day would yield such a great reward!
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?The greatest challenge I faced (and still do from time to time) was the nutrition component of the lifestyle change. It was extremely hard to go from eating whatever – whenever to eating correctly, learning about the foods I was putting in my mouth and what affect they had on my body as well. I utilized the WOWY super gym, and spent a lot of my time on the Team Beachbody website reading articles and learning about nutrition and even cooking a lot of the recipes that were offered. The workouts were always challenging physically, but nothing that I couldn’t handle despite the amount of sweat I would leave on the floor by the time I was finished.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?I’m most proud of my stomach. I always had a flat stomach, so it was much to my depression when I took my before pics and saw that gut just hanging out there like I was pregnant when I wasn’t. I cried when I looked at that picture, and then I hung it up on my mirror so every single morning (or on days I wasn’t motivated to work out) I would look at it and get my drive to get rid of it! P90X Transformation: Altaf

P90X Transformation
I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of transformation stories!  I found Atlaf’s story especially inspiring.

In 2001, Altaf was involved in a car accident that left him in severe pain. He required cervical spine surgery, which left him physically disabled and in even more pain than before. Oxycontin and Ultram worked to ease the pain, but the extensive damage to Altaf’s body affected him mentally, as well. He was diagnosed with severe depression, anxiety, and panic disorder, for which he took Paxil, Xanax, Wellbutrin, and Ambien. What’s more, Altaf also suffered from sleep apnea, a disorder that is characterized by stoppages in breathing during sleep. He had to use a CPAP machine just to sleep through the night. And that’s not even all of it. Altaf also battled diabetes, reflux disease, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. In total, he was taking 12 different medications each day.

Prior to the accident, Altaf was a vice president at a major financial institution, and he had been studying martial arts for morep90x TRANSFORMATION STATS than 20 years, earning black belts in three different styles. It was par for the course for the former high school athlete. After the accident, though, Altaf could no longer practice martial arts, or play any sports for that matter, and he was forced to go on medical leave from his job. There were times when the pain or depression got so bad that Altaf would stay in bed for weeks. He couldn’t visit his kids or spend any quality time with them, and the side effects of the medications made it difficult to have meaningful communication with anyone. Altaf’s life was in disarray.

Altaf felt like he had hit rock bottom. Then one day when he saw an infomercial for P90X®. He was intrigued by the difficulty and intensity of the workout. Right then and there, Altaf made a commitment to himself to try the program. He thought of it as the last chance to take his life back. Altaf knew it would be a difficult challenge, and there was a strong possibility that his injuries would prevent him from succeeding.

By the end his first 90 days, Altaf lost 40 pounds, cut his body fat by nearly 12 percent, and gained muscle in his arms, chest, and legs. Altaf’s wingspan increased, too. More importantly, he no longer has to take most of his sleep and depression medication. The physical and mental strength Altaf gained from P90X allowed him to take control of his life. He’s no longer depressed or anxious, his diabetes is under control, and his cholesterol and blood pressure are back down to normal levels. Altaf still has to use pain medication as needed, although the pain in his back has substantially decreased.

Now, Altaf has more energy than his kids. Friends and family members are extremely proud of his accomplishment, and a bunch of them are looking into P90X for themselves. He’s back and loving it! Every aspect of Altaf’s life has changed for the better. It was a long three months of sacrifice and hard work, but the rewards are immense.

P90X, Asylum, & Shakeology Transformation: Lisa J

Sometimes I think it’s so easy to look at  someone who is fit and thin and think they have always been that way!  I think Lisa’s story is amazing and I wanted to highlight the whole story.  This is an interview she did with Team BeachBody.
P90X Transformation

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? I have always been athletic and involved in sports my whole life. I never felt as though I was ever the most “in shape” person on my teams but I worked hard. For the most part, I felt like I think most girls do growing up, confident in myself but not necessarily in my body. This got much worse when, after college, I stopped playing soccer. I continued to eat as though I had two practices a day to fuel up for but didn’t actively exercise. My attitude towards food was incredibly unhealthy and had always been reinforced to me as “comfort”. ‘Had a bad day? Let’s get some ice cream, you’ll feel better. Still upset about that argument we had? Let’s order chinese food, then we’ll feel better.’ Food was my source of escape from a life I had come to recognize as not my own. I would consume several thousand calories a day to maintain my escape from reality and ate my way up to around 200 lbs. I was incredibly depressed, lost, unhappy, and flat out sick and I didn’t even know it.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?My father was suddenly diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer and shortly thereafter passed away. I felt as though I needed to be “the rock” for my family and pushed my own grief, confusion, and unhappiness aside and kept it tightly bottled up with food. I ate and ate and ate until I quite literally could not eat any more. I woke up one morning in January of this year with an extreme pain in my jaw and found that I had a giant, softball size lump swelling on my jaw and neck. I immediately went to the ER and was told that due to type of severe pain I was experiencing, that I was a female, and “was in the type of physical shape” I was in, their first fear and assumption was that I had had a heart attack. I thought, “who are you talking to? Couldn’t be me. I’m 22 years old! I didn’t have a heart attack!” This terrified me to the bone. After finally diagnosing me with a very severe infection and scheduling me to be hospitalized for several surgeries, I knew things had to change.

Why did you choose the particular program?I had ordered P90X earlier and used it briefly to help me stay in off-season shape for my college soccer team but never completed the full 90 day rotation. I was familiar with the Beachbody community and knew that if I wanted to get out of the terrible place I was in, I needed something that was real and that worked. I knew that Beachbody had the tools for a real answer and wasn’t just a gimmick. I knew P90X worked so I got it back out once I was released from the hospital and got to work. After completing all 90 days, losing 52 lbs and 28% body fat, I wanted more! I was hooked on the functional, sports specific idea behind Asylum and ordered it right away. Completed 30 days, lost 9 lbs and 4% body fat, and increased my speed and strength in all areas!

What in particular did you like about the program you chose?I liked how easily modifiable P90X was to my needs. All the way from starting out not being able to do very much and just trying to complete the simple movements in each workout to trying to out jump the cast in Plyometrics by the end! P90X became my replacement for comfort food. ‘Having a bad day? Go do your X workout, you’ll feel better.’ It didn’t matter if you were feeling great or horrible, if you just showed up, pushed play, and gave it your best that day, that was enough. In Asylum, I loved how much it felt like training to play soccer again! It felt great to challenge my body in that way and I loved all of the tips and motivation Shaun T provided in every workout. I feel like along with my body learning and adapting and becoming stronger, Shaun T was also challenging my mind to grow and do the same. Loved it!

Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge?The greatest challenge I faced was having to undergo 3 further surgeries after beginning P90X. Trying to balance proper healing and recovery time to best take care of myself but also staying committed to my goal of following through and changing my life with P90X. It was very difficult. The only way I can say I overcame this, was by using Shakeology and sleeping as much as I possibly could! I wasn’t allowed solid food so instead of jello and mashed potatoes, I ate Shakeology. I honestly feel as though it snapped my recovery time down to almost nothing and had me back to my normal routine in no time. If I wasn’t sleeping, I was doing my workout for the day at whatever pace I could manage or sipping on Shakeology. That was it!

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of?

Using Shakeology and walking everyday after I was released from the hospital, I lost about 20 lbs. Once I was medically cleared to exercise, continuing to use Shakeology and completing the full P90X program, I lost a further 52 lbs, countless inches and 28% body fat. I went from larger than a size 16 to a size 4. Then after completing 30 days of Asylum, I lost 9 more lbs, 4% body fat, and now hover somewhere between a size 2 and a size 4. I am truly most proud of the fact that I feel as though I have reclaimed myself and my life. I am fulling living now and no longer feel like I need to “hide” or “escape” from my own life. I am happy, confident, and excited for each and every day. I fought to get my true self back and I won.

Spring Clean Your Life!

Everyday I have a list of chores that need to be done around the house.  Dishes, laundry, making beds, tidying up the toy room. It never seems to end!  But even with daily cleaning, inevitably there are those chores that bypass the daily to-do list.  As a society we tend to collect these bypassed chores and complete them in one big swoop .  And we call it spring cleaning.

Today I was cleaning the all too famous “kitchen junk drawer”.  Now I’m convinced that every house has a drawer like this.  It may be a cupboard, maybe even an entire room. But in our house, we have a kitchen drawer where random items go to die.

As I went thru this junk drawer and sorted the pens, box-tops, scissors, & lone lego pieces, it hit me.  Here I was, taking a chunk of my time, to organize and put items in their proper place.  And all because I had failed to put these items away properly the FIRST time!  If I had S L O W E D down the FIRST time I saw that stray lego piece, and walked down the stairs to put it away in the proper place.  Then I wouldn’t be sitting here doing it now!  But since I had procrastinated several times, with several different items, I was now sitting here wasting a large chunk of my time putting things away in their proper places.

My quest to SAVE time in the moment, had, in reality, cost me more time.

It made me think.  How often do I do that with other aspects of my life?  How often do I cut corners in the sake of saving time?  How much time do I waste re-doing work?

I can definitely see I’ve done that with my health!  For years I felt I didn’t have time to cook healthy meals.  I didn’t have time to exercise.  I was cutting corners and I paid the price!  I would sleep constantly.  I would avoid social interaction and group gatherings.  I wasted time watching reality TV, hoping to escape the reality of my own miserable life.  When I HAD to leave the house, I would waste time trying on several different outfits, hoping to find that perfect shirt that would disguise my body so I could avoid the all too familiar question – “When are you expecting your baby?”.  I wasted several hours a day feeling sorry for myself.  I was not living.  I was merely existing.

Yet I continued to lie to myself.  I continued using excuses. “I don’t have time to exercise an hour a day”,  “I don’t have time to research proper nutrition”,  “I don’t have time to do that!”

I think several people feel they don’t have time to be healthy.  In fact, I know some people, especially woman, who feel GUILTY taking personal time to exercise!  They feel selfish.  But the reality is, if you don’t care of yourself properly, it will catch up to you!  You will find yourself in a situation that calls for a spring cleaning. An overhaul of your life.  And while it may take a chunk of your time, but the payoff will be worth it.

Of course, it takes courage to take a step back and recognize the need for change.  I have challengers in my fitness challenge groups that are in a spring cleaning of their life, and I admire their desire to CHANGE and COMMIT to being healthy the RIGHT way.  Everyone is capable of making that change! But just like it is with cleaning…. it is more likely to happen if you have someone there helping you and working beside you.

I learned this principle by being a mother.  I know my children are much more likely to make their beds, put away their clothes, and clean the toy room if I am by their side helping them.  So it is with health and fitness.  People need support!  People need somebody to walk beside them, and guide them with encouragement as they stand with courage to spring clean their mind from defeating thoughts, attitudes, and philosophies.

So the lesson here is simple.  Don’t cut corners.  Do things right the FIRST time.  Every single day do your BEST.  Choose to eat healthy, choose to make daily exercise a priority.  By taking the time to do that everyday you can avoid a “spring cleaning”, an overhaul of your life.

But if you do find yourself in the situation that a spring cleaning would be beneficial…. team up.  Join a Fitness Challenge Group, a support group.  It is the BEST way to ensure your success.

Emily's Transformation - P90X

This is one of my favorite transformations.  Emily did P90X for 120 days and look at the difference 4 months can make!  She started out with 28% body fat and weighing 140 lbs.  She is now at 12% body fat and 110 lbs.  One of my favorite parts about hearing her story was when she said she hit a plateau after losing 10 pounds.  She was eating clean and doing her workouts everyday and didn’t lose any weight for 3 weeks.  She said she almost giving up, but she went to her online support group and found the strength to move forward towards her goals.  She finally lost 2 pounds and continued on down from there.  What a great example of how Fitness Challenge Groups can keep individuals motivated to achieve their dreams.  Way to go Emily!Emily'sBefore&After
